Sybil B. Harrington Chair in Pediatric Oncology

Phoenix Children’s Hospital has initiated a national search for an innovative leader to serve as the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology, Director of the Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD), and the Sybil B. Harrington Chair in Pediatric Oncology. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Phoenix Children’s is the largest pediatric program of its kind in Arizona, providing complete care for children diagnosed with malignancies and blood diseases. Primary academic affiliation is with the University of Arizona, Phoenix Campus.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is Arizona’s only children’s hospital recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals, including garnering all 10 shields in 2020 with Hematology and Oncology ranking 35th. Phoenix Children's provides world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency and urgent care to children and families in Arizona and throughout the Southwest. As one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country, Phoenix Children’s provides care across more than 75 pediatric specialties. Phoenix Children’s is poised for continued growth in quality patient care, research and medical education.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) and Infusion Center at Phoenix Children’s is the largest pediatric provider of hematology and oncology services in Arizona, caring for greater than 400 new pediatric oncology patients per year, and managing greater than 500 patients with benign hematology diagnoses. The hospital has 48 inpatient single person rooms for oncology, including 16 HEPA filtered rooms designed for BMT and highly immunocompromised oncology patients, and an outpatient clinic with 18 exam rooms, 15 private infusion rooms, six quick infusion rooms and six blood draw spaces.  The BMT Program is a Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) accredited program partnership with the adult BMT program at Mayo Clinic.  The BMT program is ranked in the top five percent of programs for one year survival for patients with first allogenic stem cell transplants. The CCBD is the only location in the greater Phoenix Valley where children living with cancer can participate in Phase I clinical trials, giving them access to the latest breakthrough therapies. The Division of Hematology and Oncology and CCBD encompasses a large and diverse faculty and staff. There are robust programs across all disciplines including Neuro-Oncology, Bone Marrow transplantation, Hematology, Solid Tumor and Leukemia and Lymphoma. Currently the growing programs within CCBD have a total of 21 full time faculty, 8 Advanced Practice providers and over 80 support staff. In addition, there is an active fellowship program with 6 Hematology and Oncology fellows across the three year program.

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree and be board-certified in pediatrics and hematology/oncology. They must provide documentation of achieved accomplishments, and demonstrated proof of mentorship, leadership and scholarship in hematology/oncology. The successful candidate must possess effective interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills. It is expected that the candidate will be eligible for academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level of our affiliated medical schools.

We respectfully request your assistance in communicating this leadership opportunity to your colleagues in hematology oncology and by your nomination of highly qualified individuals. Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider your accomplished, qualified colleagues and for forwarding your nominations to the contacts below.
