The UPMC Divisions of Midwifery and Obstetrical Services are looking to hire a full-time certified nurse midwife to staff a busy obstetrical unit at UPMC – Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. 

The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and a desire to work in a large, tertiary care unit within a well-respected teaching facility. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with an interprofessional team of healthcare providers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Mentor, educate and clinically train residents and medical/CNM/APP students in best practice of clinical skill and art of labor management and birth.
  • Work as a part of an interprofessional team of midwives, physicians, advanced practices providers, and OB/Gyn residents in a triage unit responsible for evaluating labor and common complications of pregnancy.
  • Opportunities available to expand scope of practice in obstetrical ultrasound, surgical first-assist, and circumcision.

Schedule:

  • 10 and 12 hour shifts
  • Rotating days/nights/weekends/holidays

Special Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. 
    • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. 
    • Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. 
    • Good clinical judgment. 
    • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of acceptable standards of practice. 
    • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. 
    • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
    • This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Preferred candidate will have minimum of 5 year experience in triage, laborist, or full scope midwifery practice.
  • Graduate of education program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME)
  • AMCB Certification and minimum of Master’s degree
  • Pennsylvania CNM license/eligible with Authorization to Prescribe, DEA
  • Computer skills are necessary
