Fairview Health Services Ridges Hospital is searching for enthusiastic RN looking for a rewarding career in our busy Endoscopy unit located at Burnsville, Minnesota campus.
The Endoscopy department serves a diverse population of both inpatient and outpatients, providing Colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, EUS, and Bronchoscopies.Working as a team with the physician and Endoscopy technician we perform diagnostic and therapeutic exams for patients in our department, the OR, ICU, and ED. Ridges Hospital serves patients of all ages and cases and Endoscopy/GI department has 4 procedure rooms where both outpatient and inpatient colonoscopies/EGD procedures occur. We do approximately, 4,500 procedures per year, including colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, EGD, bronchoscopies, ERCP and EUS procedures.Endoscopy is a, fast-paced, complex environment offering advanced learning opportunities for the right candidate while partnering with an experienced multidisciplinary team.
This is an 8 hour Day shift; start times to cover our department hours of 6:30 am- 5:00 pm, with Holiday rotation as needed. Current opening is 56 hours in two weeks (.6 FTE, Monday-Friday) and is Benefit eligible. Night call would be 2-3 times a month and weekend call would be approximately once every couple of months. Night call is from approximately 4:30 pm until 6:30 am. Weekend call is Friday at 4:30 pm until Monday at 6:30 am. Call time is 30 minutes

The Endoscopy RN is responsible for managing the care of the adult or elderly patient beginning with the pre-procedure assessment, IV start, and education followed by procedural conscious sedation and monitoring, specimen collection and hands on assistance during the procedure.The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Provides nursing care to adult or pediatric endoscopy patients in the Endoscopy/GI department, In-patient Units, Operating Room, Emergency Department and ICU. May also includes adult or pediatric minor surgeries.
Performs as a procedure nurse for endoscopy procedures:
Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patients and familys diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.
Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by patients condition and/or the hospital policies, procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.
Pain Management including; administer medications, record, assess and observe patient progress, reactions and symptoms.
Post procedural sedation and MAC monitoring, teaching and discharge instructions are an important part of our patient care
Establish and implement nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, activation, evaluation and discharge.
Organize, assign and supervise duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader; orient and teach new staff members of the nursing team and students.
Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and facility.
Participate in non-clinical assignments, which may include serving on special committees
Responsible for the correct functioning of equipment and supplies for endoscopy procedures.
Responsible for pre-procedure assessment, notifying physician and carrying out orders for all phases of care.
Manages the intra and post procedure care of the patient including airway management and altered states of anesthesia.
Responsible to assess, plan and teach patient and family about procedure and provide appropriate discharge planning.
Assist physician with minor surgery procedures at the bedside.
Responsible for proper handling of specimens from patients, properly identifying and preparing specimens for lab.
Responsible to perform and assure proper cleaning of endoscopes and equipment and ability to carry out all aspects of equipment reprocessing.
Responsible to complete initial and annual HLD and sedation competencies
Equipment or software which may be used: EPIC, Provation MD, ENDORA, AER and Pyxis.
Minimum 2 years Med/Surg RN experience
(ADULT) BLS validated upon hire
ACLS validated at time of hire or completed within 6 months of hire based on site designation of need
Must be able to get to Fairview Ridges, Burnsville within 30 minutes if called into work
Prefer previous RN experience with GI, ENDO, Pulmonary or minor surgery cases
