LPN- Duke Primary Care

Occ Summary

Assume responsibil ities for direct nursing care of assigned patientsunder the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in patient carearea. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordancewith the scope of the LP N as defined by the North Carolina Board ofNursing.

Work Per formed

Provide and document direct nursing care of assigned patie nts under thesupervision of a registered nurse or physician. Nursing care is guidedby the physician orders and the nursing plan of care. Patient responseto care is reported to a registered nurse for evaluation, inter ventionand modificationof the plan of care. Assist other health care pe rsonnelin the delivery of patient care.Assist physicians and other nursi ng personnel in the performance ofvarious diagnostic procedures.Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and patientresponses; assist in the delivery of nursing care and selection ofnursing prioritie s.Assist in the development and implementation of general policies andpr ocedures to provide for the emotional and physical comfort and safetyof patients; participate in the formulation of new policies.Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipmentand other materia l resources.Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performanceimprovement opportunities and assists in performance improve mentactivities.Assist with control of material resources and maintenance ; assist inappraisal of effectiveness of material and equipment and repo rt anyequipment malfunctions to charge nurse.Participate in in-service e ducation programs and other conferenceswithin the service.Assist in the training of new employees.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of scope of licensed practical nurse, ability to delegate t onursing support staff.Considerable knowledge of the care and treatment of patients and specialprocedures that apply to practical nursing. Able to independently seekout resources and work collaboratively.Able to comm unicate clearly with patients, families, visitors,healthcare team, physi cians, administrators, leadership and others.Able to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing planof care.Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritizeinformation, treatment, and follow-up.Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support re quirementsdesignated by work area or organization.Able to use fine motor skills. Able to record activities, documentinterventions.Able to use co mputer and learn new software programs.Able to navigate the entity to pr ovide clinical care for patients.Able to withstand prolonged standing an d walking.Able to remain focused and organized.Working knowledge of ster ile techniques and special procedures that areapplicable to work perform ed.Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administer ingroutine and special treatments to patients.Working knowledge of sanit ation, personal hygiene and basic health andsafety precautions applicabl e to work in a hospital.Working knowledge of infection control procedure s and safety precautionsAbility to understandand follow oral and writte ninstructions.Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and otherregulatory requirements.Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing R equired
