Description

The Emory Department of Pediatrics and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Children's) are seeking an individual with a strong track record in child health related outcomes research to grow this area of research within The Emory+Children's Pediatric Institute (The Pediatric Institute). The chosen candidate will lead efforts to expand outcomes and health services research relevant to child health in the Center for Outcomes Research and Public Health (CORPH; http://www.pedsresearch.org/research/centers/corph/overview/). CORPH serves as a focal point for investigators engaged in outcomes research across disciplines providing a seminar series, funding for pilot projects, access to biostatistics and bioinformatics support and multiple collaborative opportunities. The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage many available resources including multiple pediatric campuses and institutional partnerships to enhance outcomes research through improving data access and analytic help for investigators, and educating junior faculty in outcomes research approaches and methodologies. We seek an individual who is familiar with and actively engaged in research funded by extramural agencies including NIH, AHRQ, CDC, PCORI, and other sources of funding for health services and outcomes research. The individual should be an investigator with a significant track record in this area, and who wishes to continue his/her own participation in research, while also serving in a system-wide leadership role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active funded investigator with a MD and/or PhD with proven success in leadership of federally and non-federally funded outcomes and/or health services research; clinician candidates must meet eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff; candidates with a MD must be board certified in General Pediatrics or a pediatric medical sub-specialty.
  • Demonstrated expertise in study design, research process and grant development;
  • Experience required in the evaluation and statistical analysis of health care data;
  • Experience as investigator in a healthcare of academic setting; combination of healthcare and academic experience preferred;
  • Must possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills as well as an aptitude for conflict resolution, problem solving, financial analysis and staff development;
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility with strong business acumen skills. Proven ability to drive results;
  • Ability to understand physician dynamics, multiple alignment models and work processes and experience leading change efforts.
  • JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

    Leadership:

  • The Director will formulate a vision for expanding and supporting pediatric health outcomes research within The Pediatric Institute, including within the Emory Department of Pediatrics clinical research groups and facilities, and within pediatric practices affiliated with all Children's campuses. He/she will work to enhance the outcomes research culture at our institutions and enhance the number and quality of outcomes related research projects.
  • The Director will serve on the Research Advisory Council of the Emory+Children's Pediatric Research Center as the recognized leader of outcomes research, and will be actively engaged in strategic planning for the expansion of this area of research in our institutions.
  • The Director will build ties with service lines at Children's and promote outcomes research in partnership with each service line leader
  • The Director will provide a forum for discussion of scholarly works related to outcomes research (e.g. seminars, journal clubs) and will ensure provision of and access to affiliated core resources (e.g. biostatistics).
  • The Director will develop relationships with sponsors, pediatric research institutions, local and national agencies such as the GRA, NIH, CDC and funding agencies. This will include participation in professional meetings, community forums, meetings with individual practice leaders, and other forums.
  • Education:

  • The Director will identify gaps in existing educational material and programs and create new content to ensure availability of a comprehensive outcomes related research education and training programs for pediatric outcomes researchers.
  • The Director will work with Department of Pediatrics Divisions Chiefs and other research leaders in The Pediatric Institute to ensure the pediatric educational resources are appropriately utilized.
  • The Director will work with Emory residency and fellowship programs in pediatric areas (Pediatrics, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Otolaryngology) to facilitate education and research opportunities in health outcomes for trainees.
