The Perreault lab at Emory University (Department of Cell Biology) is seeking a person to fill a new postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will investigate how the brain works when animals interact with their surrounding environment. He or she will specifically study how descending motor systems regulate sensory processing by spinal interneuronal circuits to identify general control principles that can provide effective motor output in real environments. The project will be carried out within a large collaborative network for comparative analyses in different organisms. The candidate will be expected to conduct experiments, write research summaries, abstracts for meetings and manuscripts for publications and will be encouraged to submit fellowship and grant proposals for career development. The environment will offer many opportunities to collaborate and act as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Neurophysiology, Neurobiology or related biomedical area and a record of peer-reviewed research publications documenting knowledge of research techniques and methodologies including in vivo or in vitro electrophysiology, calcium imaging and recording apparatus. Excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, dynamic, organized, and self-motivated for research.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Priority will be given to candidates with a combination of the following: previous work on neonatal brainstem or spinal cord, CNS survival surgeries, electrophysiology, optogenetics, calcium imaging, and mouse genetics.

OTHER DETAILS: The position relates to a 5-year NSF grant obtained 09-2020 (https://neuronex.org/projects/23). Start date as soon as possible. The initial appointment is for one year to be renewed yearly depending on satisfactory progress and availability of funds.
