This registered nurse position collaborates with the Transplant Manager, Nursing Supervisor(s), and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in:

  • Assisting with initial and ongoing orientation of newly hired RNs
  • Creating and facilitating education, training, and assessment of professional nursing practice
  • Coordinating transplant research requirements into nursing care
  • Implementing activities dictated by quality or compliance initiative
  • Implementing activities dictated by quality or compliance initiative

Responsibilities

Research:

  • Assumes primary responsibility for research implementation working closely with Clinical Operations - Research Services (CORS)
  • Point person for extracting and disseminating information regarding newly opening protocols pertinent to nursing practice
  • Point person for chart form file cabinets in 5 team areas, including file organization and coordination with material management staff
  • Resource for FHCRC Research RNs regarding integration of specific research protocol requirements into Transplant clinic nursing practice

Quality:

  • Conducts audits of Transplant Clinic nursing practice data to evaluate compliance with standards under the direction of the Nurse Manager
  • Supports initiatives related to compliance with regulatory requirements in the Transplant Clinic
  • Assists Nurse Manager in investigation and response to incident reports filed in Patient Safety Net
  • Represents Transplant Clinic in SCCA/FH Standard Practice Committee, Clinical Practice Council (CPC) and other committees/workgroups as appropriate
  • Creates/updates Transplant Clinic policies and procedures as well as patient education material

Education:

  • Works with new RNs to define current level of practice and determine orientation needs and preferred learning styles
  • Partners with RN preceptors & new RNs in departmental orientation/training process
  • Provides support with initial competence assessment and serves as mentor for new RNs
  • Monitors newly hired RNs' progression in completing the orientation checklist in collaboration with that orientee's preceptors
  • Partners with Nurse Manager and APRN to coordinate annual competence assessment for Transplant RNs
  • Identifies areas of educational need amongst Transplant nurses and collaborates with Nurse Manager and APRN to plan education
  • Assists in education of new equipment used by Transplant Clinic RNs

Qualifications

Required:

  • Nursing degree
  • Current Washington State nursing license.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
  • Ability to develop clinical judgment.
  • Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response.
  • Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill.
  • Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two years of nursing experience preferred

SCCA has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to SCCA facilities.

Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
