Position Summary

Phoenix Children’s is seeking a full-time Division Chief to lead the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology within Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s one of six Centers of Excellence. Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s comprises 5 divisions that integrate and coordinate care for children with neurological and behavioral disorder. We strive to improve the healthcare and quality of life for children and adolescents with complex emotional, behavioral and medical needs. We have consistently been ranked as a top neurology and neurosurgical program by USNWR.

The Division Chief’s strategic leadership will play a crucial role in enabling the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology to improve neurocognitive, social and emotional outcomes for pediatric patients. The Division Chief will provide overall direction for the clinical, training and research activities of the division. The Division Chief will collaborate on endeavors across divisions and disciplines, working closely with our partners in behavioral medicine services and the other divisions at Barrow at Phoenix Children’s.

The Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology at Phoenix Children’s currently employs 5 neuropsychologists and is actively recruiting for an additional 2 neuropsychologists, with further growth planned. We maintain an APA-accredited internship, APPIC-accredited postdoctoral fellowship, pre-doctoral internship and numerous practicum-training opportunities. We currently cover four satellite clinics and the main hospital campus, supporting a host of multidisciplinary clinics and specialty services. Members of the division participate in all aspects of our training programs, and many are involved in research programs and community education and outreach.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have . . .

  • A doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in clinical, health, or counseling psychology or a related discipline, including an APA-accredited internship.
  • Board Certification in Neuropsychology through the ABPdN or ABPP/ABCN.
  • Significant administrative and leadership experience in a pediatric hospital or comparable setting.
  • No less than five years of post-licensure professional practice.
  • Be licensed or eligible for psychology licensure in the State of Arizona.
  • A leadership style promoting a supportive and inclusive environment is key.
  • Bilingual competency in English and Spanish is desirable.

    Expertise in program development is expected as the position will require close collaboration with clinical leaders across the Institute and PCH to establish interdisciplinary teams and promote innovative care delivery models. Clinical research experience is preferred, and there are multiple opportunities for academic collaboration with clinicians and researchers in the Institute, PCH, and ASU.

    About the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology:
    The Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology is a member of Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s working with the other divisions of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychology, Psychiatry, Developmental Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Our mission is to improve the health and quality of life for children and adolescents with neurological, behavioral and psychiatric needs. Our neuropsychologists provide both inpatient and outpatient services and specialize in assessment of patients with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI), epilepsy, genetic disorders, intellectual/developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, sickle cell disease, cognitive changes following treatment for pediatric cancer and pre- and post-surgical epilepsy and heart evaluations, and pre-organ transplant evaluations.

    Our Neuropsychology program provides training experiences for graduate students, psychology interns, and fellows as well as medical students, resident physicians, and clinical teaching is a valued part of our work. Faculty will also be expected to participate in administrative activities and research associated with their academic appointment and areas of expertise.

    The Division Chief shall serve as the leader of their division and achieve clinical, research and academic programmatic goals while providing financial oversight of the Division. In addition, the division chief shall provide patient care services and will support the PCH mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families.

    Education
    • MD or DO degree (Required)
    • MBA, MPH or MHA degree, or equivalent (Preferred)
    Experience
    • Leadership experience (Required)
    • 5 years in applicable area of specialty (Preferred)
    Certifications
    • Current Arizona License to Practice Medicine or the ability to obtain prior to start date. (Required)
    • Board certified/Board Eligible in the appropriate specialty (Required)
    Special Skills
    • The ability to move freely from facility to facility, as well as, the ability to move freely throughout facilities and examine patients. (Required)
    • The ability to communicate by telephone, computer or other communication devices. (Required)
    • The ability to perform after hours or night call responsibilities as needed. (Required)
