Description

The Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics is seeking a Chief of Service and General Obstetrics and Gynecology Division Director at Grady, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Emory University School of Medicine.

The Emory Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics provides full scope of obstetrics services for patients at Grady Memorial Hospital and is also a Regional Perinatal Center for the state of Georgia. We provide outpatient care for both routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as run inpatient antepartum and postpartum services as well as an OB Triage unit. Grady Memorial Hospital is the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta, and the obstetric service offers obstetric intensive care as well as arranges transport for high-risk maternal and fetal patients from across the region, including placenta accreta spectrum patients.

The Grady Perinatal Center provides antepartum fetal testing and routine obstetric scans, and the obstetric service offers procedures including Cesarean sections, External Cephalic Versions, forceps, vacuum deliveries, as well as amniocentesis and cerclage. Grady Memorial Hospital is one of the main teaching sites for the Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Residency, and both faculty and resident are in-house for Labor and Delivery coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and maternal-fetal-medicine subspecialists are available day and night Additionally, our service provides Nurse Midwifery services, both in the ambulatory setting at some of the Grady Neighborhood Health Centers and in the ambulatory clinics at Grady, as well as inpatient services on the labor and delivery, OB Triage, and postpartum units. The Nurse Midwives also facilitate Centering group prenatal care.

Grady Memorial Hospital is a nationally renowned tertiary care hospital located in downtown Atlanta. It is one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the country and the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta metro area. The hospital also has a large center devoted to care for burns, advanced comprehensive stroke, cancer and women's health. Grady is a public academic hospital and cares for a diversity of patients with a commitment to the underserved. Emory Gynecology & Obstetrics at Grady consists of six divisions: 21 faculty, 10 fellows, and 6 advanced practice providers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Chief of Service at Grady, Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Emory University School of Medicine

  • Coordinate clinical service activities with those of other organizational units and report to the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), board, administration, and nursing services for issues pertaining to or affecting the clinical service.
  • Assure that a robust physician performance improvement program (including OPPE/FPPE and Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI)) and Morbidity and Mortality is operative within the clinical service.
  • Assist with the credentialing and medical staff appointment process and ensure timely completion of medical records and support documentation improvement efforts.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with hospital clinical service managers and administrators (e.g. budgeting process, clinical service delivery, and administrative processes).
  • Support Grady Health Systems operational and clinical improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as Chair of the Grady Hospital System Mortality Committee.
  • Work collaboratively on quality goals with Morehouse Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Grady.

Division Director, General OB/GYN at Grady

  • Represent Emory's Division of General Gynecology at Grady and Emory's surgical specialties on the Executive OR Committee.
  • Provide oversight and share best practices among other surgical service chiefs (General Surgery, Otolaryngology, Urology) from both the Emory and Morehouse services.
  • Participate in Grady initiatives such as Care Logistics, representing all surgical services from the Perioperative perspective.
  • Demonstrate leadership and facilitate interpersonal relationships among surgeon chiefs and other chiefs of services at Grady.
  • Assist in preparation of the quarterly Peri-operative services meetings to improve quality of care for patients requiring operative services.
  • Create a culture that encourages faculty promotion by prioritizing development and engagement through clinical research, national service, and scholarly publication.
  • Develop the division's faculty with emphasis on delivering evidence-based patient-centered care and encouraging growth in other aspects of the academic mission including teaching and research.
  • Participate in the direct supervision and training of faculty, residents, and medical students.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited ACGME obstetrics and gynecology residency
  • ABOG board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Meet criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
  • Qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor at Emory University School of Medicine
  • Licensure by the Georgia Composite Medical Board will be required prior to commencement of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to complement and expand the existing clinical and academic programs
  • At least four years of leadership experience of department leadership experience including operational experience
  • Prior experience working in public hospitals that serve a diverse patient population
