Discover Your Career at Emory University

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University is recruiting several open-rank tenured- (tenure track), research-, and teaching-track faculty positions. We seek candidates with expertise and interests in any area of biostatistics and bioinformatics, with a particular interest in (1) tenured or tenure-track candidates with expertise in bioinformatics, AI and machine learning, (2) tenured or tenure-track candidates with expertise in computational statistics, imaging and functional data, (3) research-track candidates with expertise in pediatric imaging, and (4) teaching-track faculty with experience in biostatistical education for broad audiences. Academic rank will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Responsibilities associated included methodological research, collaborative research, teaching and mentoring, the balance of which will depend on candidates' interest and track.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD degree in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a related field for tenure-track and research-track positions, and PhD or masters degree and extensive teaching experience for teaching-track position.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Tenure-track candidates should have demonstrated either a track-record or potential for leading an innovative methodological research program and a commitment to graduate student education. Experience in bioinformatics, AI and ML is particularly desired. Research-track candidates should have demonstrated either a track-record or potential for conducting high-impact work within transdisciplinary teams. Experience in statistical methods in pediatric imaging is particularly desired. Teaching-track candidates should have demonstrated a track-record of excellence in teaching statistical and data science courses to both biostatistics students, as well as to broader audiences.

The department includes 35 primary faculty members currently supported by a wide range of external funding. Faculty engage in diverse methodological research areas with specific motivation from an equally broad array of public health focus areas, including Alzheimer's disease, infectious diseases, cancer, cardiovascular and renal disease, epidemiological surveillance, and environmental and mental health. The department participates in the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance, serves as the Data Coordinating Center for several NIH clinical trials, and operates the Biostatistics Collaborative Core. The department offers a doctoral graduate program in Biostatistics, master's degree programs in Biostatistics, and participates in an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Computer Science and Informatics. Collaborative opportunities exist within the Rollins School of Public Health and throughout Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center including the School of Medicine, the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory National Primate Center, the Vaccine Center, the Center for AIDS Research, and with nearby partner institutions the VA Medical Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Emory University is committed to inclusion and equity in the recruitment and retention of faculty. The university diligently supports the training of historically underrepresented and underserved communities. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. Emory University is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women, minorities, people with disabilities and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applicants for any position must apply to the job posting by uploading a cover letter, a complete curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests (optional for consideration for the teaching-track position), and a statement of teaching experience and philosophy (optional for consideration for the research-track position), and arrange for the submission of three reference letters. For questions, please contact Mary Abosi (mabosi@emory.edu). Formal review of applications will begin January 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. Successful candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
